ASA Coaching Licences

In recent years it has been noticed that self-proclaimed coaches have been taking on the responsibility of taking under their charge a number of youths without any sort of academic introduction to the subject of coaching.

In order to exercise control on who has direct contact with our junior athletes and at the same time regularise the coaching sector in general, the ASA has decided to introduce Coaches Licenses that may be obtained after attending courses that being organised by the ASA.

All individuals who are involved in any coaching activity with Clubs that are affiliated with the ASA are to have a Coaching Licence issued by June 30th and, therefore, these individuals are to submit an application to the ASA Executive.

Also by June 30, all Coaches must be in possession of a valid First Aid/Life Saving Certificate.  Coaches and Assistant Coaches, without the appropriate Coaching Licence and a valid First Aid/Life Saving Certificate, shall not be permitted to coach or participate in any events or form part of any line-up.  Unlicensed individuals, as well as the Club that utilise their services, may be subject to disciplinary action.

Those individuals who are already involved in the coaching sector and have already followed ASA approved courses on the subject are still required to submit an application.

Local clubs planning to engage a foreign coach are also required to submit an application for the issue of the appropriate Coaching Licence.

As stated, in order to assist prospective coaches the ASA shall be organising regular courses to act as a foundation course for prospective coaches who have not followed any ASA approved course in recent years.  The course is split in two parts: Part One is the Foundation Course, which is common to both the swimming and water polo disciplines and Part Two is discipline specific.   The course costs Eur 60 for part One and  Eur 40 for Part Two.

With regards to the First Aid/Life Saving Course, applicants may either opt to apply for Part Three or else obtain the required certification in their own time and initiative.

A Fee of Eur 15 is to be attached with each application
