Waterpolo

Water polo is a type of team sport that’s played in swimming pools. This sport was initially invented in 19th century in England. The very first water polo game that was played in the United States was way, way back in 1800s. This consists of elements of old rugby and looks more like an American football, only in water.

Players in Field

The game that developed in modern water polo was almost similar to rugby which was being played either in rivers or lakes.

The objective of the game is carrying the ball to opposing side of the team.

Water polo do consists of two teams with each team having 7 players.

  • 6 players are playing in the field
  • 1 goal keeper

The Game

Water polo has 4 periods and each period lasts 8 minutes. There are also 2 minute breaks in between every period. In the event that the score is tied, there is going to be 2 3-minute period of additional time. Teams get a point if the ball passed the goal line.

The player is able to score goal anywhere in the field however, the goalkeeper can’t touch the ball if it’s beyond halfway mark.
